Search Engine Optimization Overview

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the effort of trying to maximize the Search Engine Results when certain keywords are entered into Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. There are a large number of tips on how to maximize your website's Search Engine Results and I will go over a couple of them below.

Website Content

Your website needs to have a large amount of Content and when I say Content, I mean text. The more times a certain word occurs on your website (while still keeping general grammar rules), the better your Search Engine Results will be. Images usually don't hold much value because the Search Engines will not know what the images subject are. Your website's content needs to have a distinct narrow subject. Generally, the broader the subject is, the worse the Search Engine Results will be. Lastly, updating your content on a regular basis is a big plus. This gives Blogs on your website a big positive to your overall Search Engine Results.

Keywords Where They Matter

Your website needs have the correct keywords in the right places. The following places are some of the locations that must be covered by your website.

  • Site Title
  • Domain Name
  • Description
  • Tagline
  • Keywords
  • Blog Categories
  • Page Titles
  • Page Content

Links To & From

Links leading to your site are one way to assist your traffic as well as prove to the Search Engines that your site is trusted and getting proper traffic. Links from your site to other sites like yours, is another way to prove that your content is legitimate.

Load Times

Load Times are becoming more and more important. First, you want your load times because this reduces your bounce rate (people hitting back button once they have reached your website) of the people visiting your website. Also, the Search Engines also see these bounces and will then reduce your Search Engine Results because of it.
